Toward Making Internet available to all: Facebook Launches internet.org

Facebook in collobration with six tech giant - Nokia, Opera, Qualcomm,
Mediatek, Samsung and Sony Ericsson has launch internet.org a new
initiative aimed at making internet accesible to all.

The group notes that only 2.7 billion people, just over one third of
the World population had access to the internet.
While the internet adoption is growing at just 9% each year.

"Everything Facebook has done has been about giving all people around
the World the power to connect" Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook
said in a statement.

"Nokia is deeply passionate about connecting people to one another and
the World around them" Stephen Elop, Nokia President and CEO said in a
statement.

" for more than 100 years, Ericsson has been enabling communication
for all and today more than 6 Billion people in the World have access
to mobile communication" Hans Vestberg, Sony Ericsson said in a
statement.

According to the group " potential project include developing data
compression tools, enhancing network capabilities to more efficiently
handle data, building system to cache data efficiently and creating
frameworks for apps to reduce data usage"
